Retro-commissioning

Service Areas:

H&H Group Holdings

Commissioning is a process that new buildings go through to make sure they are tuned to operate as they were designed. Buildings can quickly begin to operate outside of their designed conditions and operate less efficiently within a few years.

Retro-commissioning

Retro-commissioning (RCx) is the re-examination of the system once it is in operation to make sure it is performing as orginally designed. A study conducted by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on 100 buildings found the energy savings from a full retro-commissioning analysis to average between 5 to 15% with less than a 2 year payback. During a RCx, we will look to uncover failed systems and devices and detect underperforming or failing devices. A RCx audit of a facility will include:

  • HVAC equipment and controls
  • Pneumatic controls
  • Compressed air system
  • Lighting and controls

Continuous Commissioning

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories study concluded that most buildings will degrade within 18 to 24 months after retro-commissioning. H&H has a key partnership with ESI to offer a revolutionary product/service that protects the investment made during retro-commissioning. It is called continuous commissioning or fault detection and diagnostics. With ESI's data analytics platform, we can continuously monitor critical system parameters with the same scrutiny that the building received during the RCx process. Data is pulled automatically from equipment and is able to alert operators when system performance begins to degrade. This allows us to protect the investment made during retro-commissioning, ensuring your building runs at peak efficiency, indefinitely.
